"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Mirrors Don't Lie. Mislead? Oh, Yes.

To scientists, the simultaneous simplicity and complexity of mirrors make them powerful tools for exploring questions about perception and cognition in humans and other neuronally gifted species, and how the brain interprets and acts upon the great tides of sensory information from the external world. They are using mirrors to study how the brain decides what is self and what is other, how it judges distances and trajectories of objects, and how it reconstructs the richly three-dimensional quality of the outside world from what is essentially a two-dimensional snapshot taken by the retina's flat sheet of receptor cells. They are applying mirrors in medicine, to create reflected images of patients' limbs or other body parts and thus trick the brain into healing itself. Mirror therapy has been successful in treating disorders like phantom limb syndrome, chronic pain and post-stroke paralysis.

Other researchers have determined that mirrors can subtly affect human behavior, often in surprisingly positive ways. Subjects tested in a room with a mirror have been found to work harder, to be more helpful and to be less inclined to cheat, compared with control groups performing the same exercises in nonmirrored settings. Reporting in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, C. Neil Macrae, Galen V. Bodenhausen and Alan B. Milne found that people in a room with a mirror were comparatively less likely to judge others based on social stereotypes about, for example, sex, race or religion.

The link between self-awareness and elaborate sociality may help explain why the few nonhuman species that have been found to recognize themselves in a mirror are those with sophisticated social lives. Our gregarious great ape cousins -- chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans and gorillas -- along with dolphins and Asian elephants, have passed the famed mirror self-recognition test, which means they will, when given a mirror, scrutinize marks that had been applied to their faces or bodies. The animals also will check up on personal hygiene, inspecting their mouths, nostrils and genitals...

I'm all for any test that tells me that I've "done everything right."

You are the World
Completion, Good Reward.
The World is the final card of the Major Arcana, and as such represents saturnian energies, time, and completion.
The World card pictures a dancer in a Yoni (sometimes made of laurel leaves). The Yoni symbolizes the great Mother, the cervix through which everything is born, and also the doorway to the next life after death. It is indicative of a complete circle. Everything is finally coming together, successfully and at last. You will get that Ph.D. you've been working for years to complete, graduate at long last, marry after a long engagement, or finish that huge project. This card is not for little ends, but for big ones, important ones, ones that come with well earned cheers and acknowledgements. Your hard work, knowledge, wisdom, patience, etc, will absolutely pay-off; you've done everything right.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

After many trips to the airport and Amtrack everyone has gone home. I miss them already. I thought I'd share some of the things I learned during the past two weeks.

Wiki Waki Woo Instructions
Combine all ingredients with ice and pour into a tall glass. Serve with a straw and garnished with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

Hurricane Recipe
A Hurricane is a tropical drink made with two kinds of rum, orange juice, and lime juice. Variations sometimes include other ingredients such as Galliano, pineapple juice, bitters, and grenedine. One of these Hurricane Recipes is garnished with two cherries and an orange slice.

2 teaspoons brown sugar
18 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
6 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes and drained

Blend the first 8 ingredients together in a food processor or blender until almost smooth. Transfer the marinade to a large, wide bowl. Add the shrimp and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for about 2 hours, turning occasionally.

Sunburn

The pain and burning associated with a sunburn can be relieved with a number of different remedies applied to the burn site. The skin can be hydrated by applying topical products containing Aloe vera and/or vitamin E, which reduce inflammation. Hydrocortisone cream may also help reduce inflammation and itching. Avoid the use of benzocaine, lidocaine, and butter; these are false remedies which can prevent healing and damage skin but relieve pain. When treating open sores caused by a sunburn, like any other open skin wound, it is best to avoid lotions or other directly-applied ointments. However, antibacterial solutions and gauze can prevent skin infections.

I stole this idea from strandline who nipped it from someone else.

1: Type in "[your name] hates" in Google search:
"[parataxic] He hates mountain bikers because they have sex, and he does not.
-> Nothing against mountain bikers, happy they are having sex, and nope.

2: Type in "[your name] looks like" in Google search:
"[parataxic] One is all intestines; another has a second head growing out of a shoulder; a third looks more lizard than human; a fourth, like a sponge with eyes. ...
->Yikes, tried again
looks like I dropped a television set down the back of my pants,
-> Does not--and again
Look what happens with a love like that -- it lights the whole world." ...
->Much better

3: Type in "[your name] does" in Google:
"[parataxic] Parts can stand for wholes, events merely coincident in time"
-> This could explain my life.

4: Type in "[your name] needs" in the Google search:
"[parataxic] may also be used to describe the juxtaposition of co-ordinate clauses without, intervening conjunctions," Huh?
Tried again and got "new patterns of behavior need to be implemented"

-> Fair enough.

5: Type in "[your name]..has gone" in Google
"[parataxic] His definition of parataxic has been described in more detail by others.
->Sadly often.

6: Type in "[your name] loves" in Google search:
"[parataxic]
.. friends you know will love each other, good fake meat, parataxic narrative, ... soup dumplings, knowing that someone out there in the world loves you, ...
->Fake meat?
or
The parataxic mode refers to an enormous body of human experience which is ... for instance in states of communion, love, sleep, or with certain drugs. ..."
->OK

7: Type in "[your name] eats" in Google search
"[parataxic] York Peppermint Patty"
-> True

8: Type in "[your name] has" in Google search:
"[parataxic] parataxic has to do with a unique kind of organization "
-> unique is a kind way of describing it.

9: Type in "[your name] works" in Google
"[parataxic] drive reflected in a need for tenderness."
-> Mmmm

10: Type in"[your name] lives" in Google search
"[parataxic] interested in the details of their lives and especially in what those events mean."
-> My life's work.

11: Type in "[your name] died" in Google search
"[parataxic] She didn't know the rules; so she died."
-> Might be carved upon my tombstone.

12: Type in "[your name] will" in Google search
"[parataxic] Members will begin to interact with each other based upon their parataxic distortions, which is in essence the root of their pathology. ...
or
"[parataxic] she will eat green beans today. "
-> One is so true.
